Flashy
(adj.): attracting attention by being bright, expensive, large, etc.
e.g.
We should reduce the use of
flashy (浮華的)
neon signs (霓虹燈). Such signs cause not only
energy loss (能量損耗) but also
light pollution (光污染).
Lavish
(adj.): large in amount, or impressive, and usually costing a lot of money
e.g.
Those who live a
lavish (奢華的) lifestyle have no
consciousness (意識) of
conserving (節約) energy.
Severity
(n.): seriousness
e.g.
If there is no
fuse (保險絲) that plays the role of saving energy and protecting the
circuit (電路), you can’t imagine the
severity (嚴重性) when the electrical appliance
operates (運行)
abnormally (異常).
Electricity bill
(n.): a written statement that reflects the use of electricity by an individual or enterprise over a period of time
e.g.
If you use
energy-saving (節能的) lamps and
low-power (低功耗的) appliances, the amount on your
electricity bill (電費單) will be decreased.
Commitment
(n.): a promise or firm decision to do something
e.g.
Wanting to save electricity, the little boy made a
commitment (承諾) to turn on the
air conditioner (空調) less often in the summer.
