Etiquette
(n.): the set of rules or customs in particular social groups or social situations
e.g.
When having a meal in Hong Kong, there are a few
etiquette (禮節) rules worth mentioning. For example, when people pour tea, it is
customary (慣常的) to
tap (輕敲) on the table to express
gratitude (感謝).
Expect
(v.): to think that someone should do a particular thing
e.g.
The
cutlery (餐具) is
expected (需要) to be placed in the appropriate position when dining in a western restaurant because this can
convey (傳遞) to the waiter whether you intend to continue the meal.
Occasion
(n.): a special or formal event
e.g.
We should not talk loudly when dining on formal
occasions (場合) as this is
ill-mannered (無禮的).
Apologise
(v.): to say that you are sorry for doing something wrong or causing a problem
e.g.
In order to
apologise (道歉) professionally at work, you should
acknowledge (認可…屬實) what happened, state what you did wrong and take steps to correct the situations.
