Theme: Crime (p.81)

  1. Godfather (n.): the leader of a criminal group, especially a mafia family

    e.g.
    News spread (流傳) on the Internet that the famous godfather (犯罪組織的頭號人物) had been arrested (逮捕) by the police on suspicion (嫌疑) of a crime.

  2. Criminal (n.): someone who commits a crime

    e.g.
    The court commuted (減輕) the sentence (判刑) after taking into account that the criminal (罪犯) suffered from bipolar disorder (躁鬱症).

  3. Ruthless (adj.): not thinking or worrying about any pain caused to others

    e.g.
    The ruthless (無情的) killer was disposing of a body (屍體). He cut up the body and buried (埋葬) the pieces on a remote (偏遠的) mountain.

  4. Gang lord (n.): a person who is considered the boss of a bad and dangerous crowd

    e.g.
    The town is inhabited (居住) by a gang lord (黑幫老大). He is always demanding money from shopkeepers (店主) with iron bars and likes to chat up (搭訕) girls on the street.

  5. Brutal (adj.): cruel, violent, and completely without feelings

    e.g.
    After examining the body, the forensic (法醫的) expert concluded that the victim (受害者) had probably been subjected (使遭受) to some brutal (殘暴的) abuse (虐待) before her death.

  6. Murder (n.): the crime of killing someone

    e.g.
    Although the killer carefully set up the scene and created an alibi (不在場證據) after the murder (謀殺), the police found crucial (關鍵的) evidence and finally solved the case.
