Respectful
(adj.): showing politeness or honour to someone or something
e.g.
Interrupting (打斷) someone and then
launching (發表) into a
monologue (長篇大論) is not
respectful (尊重的) to others.
Netiquette
(n.): the set of rules about behaviour that is acceptable on the internet
e.g.
Internet users should observe
netiquette (網路禮儀), which requires people to show
courtesy (禮貌) to each other.
Thoughtful
(adj.): kind and always thinking about how to help other people
e.g.
The flight attendants are very
thoughtful (體貼的). They are able to meet the needs of passengers and solve problems
in a timely manner (及時地).
Put yourself in other’s shoes
(idiom.): to imagine that you are someone who is experiencing something and imagine how that person feels
e.g.
Before
criticizing (批評) or
scolding (責罵) others, you should
put yourself in their shoes (設身處地去想).
Refrain
(v.): to avoid doing or stop yourself from doing something
e.g.
As a
virtuous (品德高尚的) man, even if you see something you don’t like, you should
refrain (克制) from making
wild (輕率的)
remarks (言論), otherwise you will be no different from a
troll (發布挑釁言論者).
Boundary
(n.): a real or imagined line that marks the edge or limit of something
e.g.
Without personal
boundaries (邊界), you may lose yourself in your work or familial obligations. Boundaries allow you to live life on your terms.
Open-minded
(adj.): willing to listen to others and consider new ideas and opinions
e.g.
My grandfather is
open-minded (開明的). He thinks that the
feudal (封建的) idea of male
superiority (優越性) over female should be
abolished (摒棄).
