  1. Alma mater (n.): the school, college, or university where you studied

    e.g.
    The director (導演) said that he had a full (充實的) life during his days at his alma mater (母校). He not only learned a lot but also gained sincere (真摯的) fellowship (友誼). His most popular movie was inspired by this experience.

  2. Passion (n.): a very strong interest in something

    e.g.
    The renowned (著名的) professor is engrossed (專心致志的) with mathematics. This passion (熱情) enables him to delve into (鑽研) facts and figures.

  3. Pursuit (n.): the act of trying to achieve a plan, activity, or situation, usually over a long period of time

    e.g.
    The idol’s pursuit (追求) of becoming a remarkable (卓越的) actor made him abandon (拋棄) his family business and devote (將…貢獻給) himself to the entertainment industry (娛樂圈).

  4. Refuge (n.): protection or shelter from danger or trouble

    e.g.
    The new air raid app saves lives by sending warnings to civilians quickly. It allows the masses (大眾) to seek refuge (庇護) in bomb shelters (防空洞) in time.

  5. Follow in someone’s footsteps (idiom.): to do the same thing as someone else did previously

    e.g.
    The genius has loved music from an early age. He aspired (立志) to follow in Beethoven’s footsteps (效法), becoming a composer (作曲家).
