Nameless hero
(n.): a person who is admired by many people for doing something brave or good but his or her name is not known
e.g.
They won the war because of the many
nameless heroes (無名英雄) who fought
courageously (勇敢地) on the
battlefield (戰場).
Acknowledge
(v.): to accept, admit, or recognize something
e.g.
Although the theory was
criticized (批判) by many people when it was
proposed (提出), it was eventually
acknowledged (認可) by later generations.
Anonymous
(adj.): unknown by name
e.g.
The
director (董事) of the
orphanage (孤兒院) wrote a thank-you letter to an
anonymous (匿名的) donor.
Saviour
(n.): a person who saves someone from danger or harm
e.g.
Roosevelt (羅斯福) was seen as an economic
saviour (救星) for the fact that he put the economy
back on track (重回正軌) with a series of practical
initiatives (方案).
Dedicate
(v.): to say at the beginning of a book or film, or before a piece of music, that it has been written, made, or performed for someone that you love or respect
e.g.
Enthusiastic (熱心的) citizens planned to
dedicate (獻給) a
silk banner (錦旗) to the
volunteers (義工) who had helped in the
stricken (受嚴重侵害的) area.
