Theme: Travel and tourism (p.121)

  1. Tour leader (n. phr.): a person employed by a travel agency to assist its clients while travelling

    e.g.
    The tour leader (領隊) will arrange (安排) accommodation (住宿) for you while the tour guide (導遊) is showing you around the wine factory.

  2. Agency (n.): a business that represents one group of people when dealing with another group

    e.g.
    Given (鑒於) the recession (衰退) in tourism (旅遊業) during the economic crisis (經濟危機), a large number of travel agencies (代理機構) slashed (大幅削減) the prices to make ends meet (使收支相抵).

  3. Cramp (n.): a pain in part of your body when a muscle becomes too tight

    e.g.
    One of the tourists (遊客) had leg cramps (抽筋) after the long hike. The tour guide took good care of him.

  4. Safety measure (n. phr.): something that you do to prevent something bad from happening

    e.g.
    People are reminded to take the safety measures (安全措施) seriously when bungee jumping (高空彈跳).

  5. Coach (n.): a long, comfortable bus that carries passengers on long trips

    e.g.
    The travel agency (旅行社) is going to arrange for a brand new (嶄新的) coach (旅遊巴) that allows the passengers to turn seats into bunk beds (雙層床).

  6. Condition (n.): the particular state that something or someone is in

    e.g.
    The kid kept vomiting (嘔吐) because of carsickness (暈車). After being sent to hospital, his condition (狀況) began to improve.

  7. Compensation (n.): money paid to someone for their loss

    e.g.
    The Consumer Council (消委會) criticised (批評) the major airlines for not stating the terms of compensation (賠償) for delayed or cancelled flights.
