Theme: Travel and tourism (p.114)

  1. Working holiday (n. phr.): a trip to another country or region in which you work

    e.g.
    Working holiday (工作假期) gives youngsters (年輕人) the opportunity to study, work and travel in a foreign country, but there are certain requirements (要求) for this type of visa (簽證).

  2. Stunning (adj.): extremely beautiful or impressive

    e.g.
    As one of the most famous landmarks (地標) in Hong Kong, the International Finance Centre (國際金融中心) has left countless (無數的) visitors marveling (驚歎) at its stunning (絕美的) design.

  3. Settle down (phr. v.): to become familiar with a place

    e.g.
    As night fell, the weary (筋疲力盡的) tourists quickened (加快) their pace (腳步), hoping to find a hostel (旅館) to settle down (安頓下來) and have a hearty (豐盛的) meal.

  4. Gesture (n.): something you do or say to show a feeling or intention

    e.g.
    After returning to Hong Kong, he sent some local specialties (特產) to his host family (寄宿家庭) in Australia as a gesture (表示) of gratitude (感激).

  5. Impression (v.): an idea or opinion of what something or someone is like

    e.g.
    As a first-time visitor to Paris, my impression (印象) of the City of Lights (光之城) was far from (毫不) disappointing (令人失望的). Walking in the streets of Paris, I experienced the historical (歷史的) and artistic (藝術的) atmosphere (氛圍).

  6. Neighbourhood (n.): the area of a town that surrounds someone's home

    e.g.
    After having dinner together, the warm-hearted (友好的) old couple (夫妻) led the group of Korean (韓國的) students to go for a walk in the neighbourhood (鄰近地區).

  7. Household (n.): a group of people, often a family, who live together

    e.g.
    Considering the advantageous (優越的) location (地理位置) of and the beautiful scenery (風景) around their villa (別墅), the household (一戶人) planned to turn it into a bed and breakfast.

  8. Co-worker (n.): a person you work with

    e.g.
    During the pandemic (大流行病), tourism (旅遊業) declined (衰退) drastically (猛烈地). Tour guides (導遊) and most of their co-workers (同事) became unemployed (失業的).
