Theme: School life (p.135)

  1. Itinerary (n.): a plan of a trip

    e.g.
    ‘Our school will organise (組織) a study tour (遊學團) to Singapore (新加坡). Here is the itinerary (行程). First, we will visit a dock (碼頭) …’ the class teacher told his students.

  2. Event (n.): a planned and organised occasion

    e.g.
    In order to strengthen (加強) students’ physiques (體格), the school held a series of sports events (活動).

  3. Coach (n.): a large, comfortable bus

    e.g.
    The group of students will take a coach (大巴) to the safari park (野生動物園) to see the animals up close.

  4. Museum (n.): a building where historical, valuable objects are kept

    e.g.
    The teacher decided to take her students to visit the dinosaur (恐龍) fossil (化石) museum (博物館) at the end of the term.

  5. Guided tour (n. phr.): a visit to a place such as a museum with a guide who explains facts about the place

    e.g.
    Some students heard that the school would arrange (安排) a guided tour (導覽之旅) for the winners of the oil painting (油畫) competition to visit the Louvre Museum (羅浮宮).

  6. Facility (n.): pieces of equipment that are provided for a particular purpose

    e.g.
    Among those facilities (設施) added to the school’s reading rooms (閱覽室), the new retrieval (檢索) machine is a highlight (亮點).

  7. Learning hub (n. phr.): a very important centre for gaining knowledge through studying

    e.g.
    The learning hub (學習中心) stores (儲存) a wide variety of (廣泛的) learning resources (資源).

  8. Gallery (n.): a place that has exhibitions of works of art in it

    e.g.
    The art teacher suggested his students to visit an art gallery (畫廊) on the weekend to get some inspiration (靈感).

  9. Roof garden (n. phr.): a garden on the flat roof of a building

    e.g.
    The teacher led her students to the roof garden (屋頂花園) of the teaching building (教學樓) to let them explore (探究) the diversity (多樣性) of plants.

  10. Studio (n.): a room where radio or television programmes are recorded

    e.g.
    The transfer student (轉學生) was over the moon (欣喜若狂) when he came to the studio (演播室) for the first time.

  11. Thematic (adj.): concerned with a theme of something

    e.g.
    Every week, the school will hold a thematic (主題的) assembly (集會), so that students can learn more and also show their talent (才能).
