Theme: Crimes (p.171)

  1. Witness (n.): a person who saw something happen

    e.g.
    The witness (目擊者) saw a gang (犯罪團夥) beating up (暴打) a middle-aged (中年的) man. He called the police immediately (立刻).

  2. Incident (n.): an event that is either unpleasant or unusual

    e.g.
    The boy still remembers what the thug (暴徒) did to him. Every time he thinks of this incident (事件), he feels terrified (恐懼的).

  3. Tiptoe (v.): to walk carefully to avoid making noise

    e.g.
    The thief (小偷) tiptoed (踮著腳走) cautiously (小心地) into the tycoon's (大亨) bedroom and found a secret compartment (暗格).

  4. Stealthily (adv.): quietly and carefully in order not to be seen or heard

    e.g.
    After knocking (重擊) down the security guard (保安), the robber (強盜) went upstairs stealthily (鬼鬼祟祟地).

  5. Panic (n.): a very strong feeling of anxiety or fear

    e.g.
    The grave robber (盜墓者) hid in an abandoned (廢棄的) hut (小屋) in a panic (驚慌) after seeing the police in the distance (遠處).

  6. Gunshot (n.): the sound of a gun being fired

    e.g.
    The ranger (護林員) heard a series of (一連串的) gunshots (槍聲) when heading (前進) toward the woods (樹林).
