Theme: Precious things (p.154)

  1. Artist (n.): someone who paints, draws, or makes sculptures

    e.g.
    The artist (美術家) was absorbed (全神貫注的) in his painting. He drew the lines (線條) so carefully that the objects he painted were very realistic (逼真的).

  2. Craftsman (n.): a person who is skilled in a particular craft

    e.g.
    The exhibition (展覽) has invited many local craftsmen (手藝人) to make various (各式各樣) intriguing (新奇的) gadgets (小器具).

  3. Showcase (v.): to display or present something

    e.g.
    The museum will showcase (展出) a recently (最近) unearthed (挖掘出土的) bronze (青銅) ware (器皿) used by an emperor (帝皇) in ancient times.

  4. Highlight (n.): the most outstanding parts of something

    e.g.
    One of the highlights (亮點) about this house is its roof (屋頂) design. Its roof is embedded (嵌入) with solar (太陽能的) chips (芯片).

  5. Intangible cultural heritage (n. phr.): cultures that have artistic or historical value and are not physical

    e.g.
    Shadow puppetry (皮影戲) went into decline (沒落) in the folk (民間). As an intangible cultural heritage (非物質文化遺產), we should pass it on (傳承).

  6. Decorative (adj.): made to look attractive

    e.g.
    Many people think that watches are great inventions (發明) because they can be used not only to tell the time (報時), but also for decorative (裝飾性的) purposes.
